Mum Shares Simple Breastmilk Storage Hack Which Is an Absolute Game-Changer
They might say that there is no point crying over spilt milk, but it’s quite obvious that “they” haven’t just spent hours pumping breastmilk only to spill some of it while pouring their liquid gold into storage bags!
Anyone who pumps will know the anxiety of transferring their breastmilk into carefully marked storage bags for later use and this mum’s ridiculously simple hack is a game-changer. Honestly, it’s one of those forehead-slapping “why didn’t I think of that?” moments, for sure.
Ashley Newton, @unlicensedtomom on TikTok, shared the tip recently on her channel, delighting “terrible milk pourers” everywhere.

“I have the worst luck when pouring the milk into bags,” wrote mum Ashley. “This also makes sure every tiny drop is caught.”
So, let’s just analyse this a bit:
PROS
- no spilling precious breastmilk, especially important if you’re pumping while overtired or in the dark
- no washing and re-sterilising the bottle in between uses
- easy as pie
CONS
- can’t measure how much milk is expressed easily, but using kitchen scales to weigh the milk proves just as effective
- still have to wash and sterilise the top part of the bottle/pump but you’d be doing that anyway

Some further advice from mums using this tip – make sure you gently tighten the bottle to the pump to prevent making holes in the top of the bag.
