Mum Helps Deliver her Baby via Caesarean

One of the factors against having a caesarean birth is the lack of control by the mum on delivery, but one incredibly strong mum on the Gold Coast has turned that on its head. Jane Prichard gave birth by c-section on the 23rd September and lifted her son out of her womb during the birth.

Rana Rankin from Breathe Birth Photography was there to capture the incredible moment when Mrs Prichard reached her baby Tex, from under the arms and gently pulled him up to her chest from her belly.

Rankin later told HuffPost UK Parents that it was amazing to be a part of the birth, not just as a photographer, but as a midwife and mother too.

“The highlight of the whole birth for me though was the empowerment of a mum. Jane felt like she had some control over a birth which wasn’t her first choice.”

“I believe women should be supported to birth in a way that gives them choices, this is their birth experience. I loved how supportive the whole hospital team was, it was an absolute credit to John Flynn Hospital.” Rankin said.

Mrs Prichard explained the experience to the Daily Mail Australia, “The head was out and the top of the shoulders and he [the obstetrician] said ‘Jane, it’s your turn now’. I put my hand under Tex’s arms and pulled and Dr Dutt was saying to be slow, do it slowly. I had to use a little bit of force, and I pulled him out slowly on to my chest.”

Before Jane fell pregnant with Tex, she had experienced four miscarriages and failed rounds of IVF. The married mum also has a six year old son, Jett.
