Eleven-Year-Old Delivers Baby Sister

An amazing story has come out of the UK, where an 11-year-old, Caitlin Burke, delivered her baby sister single-handledy while being guided by ambulance officers on the phone.

Caitlin’s mum, Tara knew her delivery would be soon due to experience from her previous births. When her waters broke early on Tuesday morning, her partner, Daniel Burke, had left to take her youngest child to his sister’s house.

Within ten minutes of Daniel leaving, Tara’s waters broke and Caitlin, Tara’s eldest child, sprang into action to help her mum.

The 11-year-old rang an ambulance and was guided over the phone on how to deliver the baby.

Caitlin was calm during the delivery. She not only managed to deliver her baby sister, while mum screamed in agony, she was also able to unravel the cord which was wrapped around her new sister before handing her to her mum.

A couple of hours after delivering the baby, Caitlin went to school.

The eldest of 5 children, Caitlin now wants to be a midwife when she grows up. She told the Birmingham Mail, “I was a bit scared and shakey at first because I had never seen anything like that before in my life.

“But when my sister was born, I was really happy. I think she’s really cute and I love her very much.

“My friends at school and the teachers were really happy and proud of me. I want to be a midwife when I’m older.”

Tara spent just over two hours in labour and gave birth to Elsa-Monet at 7:17am.

The stay-at-home mum said, “I don’t know what I would have done if Caitlin had not been there.

“I started getting contractions so my partner left to take my youngest to his sister’s house.

“But within 10 minutes of him leaving, my waters broke.

“Based on previous labours, I knew that as soon as that happened, it wouldn’t be long before the baby was born.

“I told Caitlin to call for an ambulance, and they were telling her what to do over the phone.

“I was screaming in pain but Caitlin was calm throughout.”

When the baby crowned, Caitlin wasn’t fazed.

“Caitlin was just amazing. I find it difficult to put into words just what she has done for me.”
