Mum Criticised for Wearing Designer Outfits While Dressing Her Kids in Cheap Clothes

Mum Criticised for Wearing Designer Outfits While Dressing Her Kids in Cheap Clothes

Mums will be shamed for literally anything these days. The latest in the long line of criticisms directed at women for their choices is for dressing their children in cheap clothes while they wear nicer, more expensive clothes themselves.

It’s baffling, isn’t it?

A Canadian mum of two has defended herself for choosing to dress herself and her children the way she wants.

Caitlyn Fladager is a 26-year-old marriage and motherhood Instagrammer with over 330,000 followers. Lately, some of those followers have noticed a difference in the clothes she wears versus her children’s clothes. The stylish young mum can be seen in some Instagram photos wearing nice dresses with heels. Oh, the scandal.

Followers also noticed that her children were dressed in casual t-shirts and pants.

Honestly, is there nothing people won’t bitch about?

Forced to defend her choices, Fladager explained that she buys her son and daughter’s clothes at Walmart while she buys her own clothes at other places. There are several reasons why she does this, she says in an Instagram post showing her children eating ice cream.

“Your kids only wear clothes from Walmart, while you get dressed up a lot. Not a good look for you as a mom..” ⁣

That statement is something I get a lot. ⁣
⁣Yes, my kids’ clothes mostly come from Walmart, while I buy myself clothes from other stores. ⁣

You know why? ⁣

Because I am not constantly outgrowing them, like my kids are. ⁣
⁣I am not constantly spilling food and dirt all over my brand new clothes. ⁣
⁣I am not outside running around in the dirt for hours on end. ⁣
⁣I am not tripping and ripping holes in brand new clothes. ⁣
⁣I am not changing my mind daily about what colour I have randomly decided I don’t want to wear ever again. ⁣

I am not a kid. ⁣

My children are messy, they love to play in the dirt, and they love to spill their food. ⁣
⁣I buy them cheaper clothes, because I refuse to be the mom who yells at them for spilling a drop of ice cream on a brand new shirt. ⁣
⁣I strive to be the mom who sees them spill, and says “oh no big deal!”⁣
⁣I strive to be the mom who sees them playing in the dirt, not caring that they are ruining a brand new outfit. ⁣
⁣I strive to be the mom who teaches them there is more to life than having nice, expensive clothes.⁣
⁣So yes, my kids mainly live in Walmart clothes. ⁣
⁣And they love it. ⁣
⁣They love being able to spill, get dirty, and outgrow clothes in a day with me not caring. ⁣
⁣So here are my kids, in an outfit I bought not long before this day. ⁣
⁣Here’s them covered in dirt, spilling ice cream, and living their best life. ⁣
⁣That’s all I could ever want. ⁣

I will not feel bad for buying my clothes for them from Walmart.⁣
⁣Because when I look at this picture, it reminds me why I do that. ⁣
⁣The dirt, the smiles, and the ice cream makes me way more happier than a photo of them dressed in clothes they hate, that they will outgrow in a week. ⁣

This right here, makes me so much happier.

Any mum will tell you that kids are sticky and dirty and generally gross at times. They grow like weeds and wear their clothes hard. Only someone with money to burn would consistently dress them in designer clothing when you can buy seriously cute stuff at everyday department stores on the cheap.

It is utterly mind-boggling what internet trolls will drag up to criticise women about.

Considering how quickly children grow clothes are expensive. They don’t have that much fabric in them to warrant the expense of fancy brands. No matter what you use stains don’t always come out. One of my nieces grew 2 sizes in clothing in 10 weeks, and a size in shoes in 12 weeks.
