How Would You Respond if This Happened to Your Child at Daycare?

Parents put a lot of trust in their chosen daycare, to ensure their children are cared for and kept safe.

Choosing the right daycare for your child when you head back to work can be easier said than done.

There are the waiting lists and availability of days, plus the decision on which daycare environment will suit your child. Sometimes there is no choice as you are forced to take up the first opening available.

One mum and dad in the UK are looking to take their daughter to a different daycare after an incident happened with their daughter’s hair.

The dad picked up his daughter from daycare and didn’t notice anything unusual until he sent a video of their daughter to his wife. When the mum saw the video she was angry at her husband for trimming their daughter’s hair, but the hubby denied being responsible of the new hairstyle.

“I picked my 15-month-old daughter up today after very long day at work, and didn’t notice anything (I’m a stereotypical male and don’t notice hair stuff) until I sent a video to the other half,” he explained on Reddit. “She went ballistic at me thinking I’d cut it, I went ballistic at her (after finding out what the hell she was going ballistic about), thinking she must have cut it and was messing with me.”

The dad realized his daughter’s hair must have been cut at daycare. It was the only possible explanation.

When the dad confronted the facility, they couldn’t explain how the little girl got her hair cut, but apologized for what happened.

The dad was compelled to share his frustration online, by sharing a before and after image of his daughter.

“The nursery can find no explanation. They do not have access to scissors in her room (which is still a baby room rather than a toddler room). No staff has admitted to cutting her hair,” the dad added to his original post. “The nursery administration ‘can only apologize.’ We’re looking for other nurseries, and will submit a formal complaint . . . I really wish we’d had a decent explanation, but we don’t, and I can’t trust them any more.”

How would you have responded to this incident as a parent? Have you ever had a daycare mishap that has forced you to take your child to a new daycare centre?
