12 Baby Products Parents Can’t Live Without

When you find out you’re pregnant, it can be super exciting. You’re bringing a new life into the world. But bringing said baby into the world can be a little overwhelming because there is so much stuff you will need to buy!

Or is there?

Of course there are the essentials like a cot, a pram and car seat.

But then there are the expendables. The items you don’t necessarily need to have, but will make your life so much easier.

We asked you, our readers, what baby products you can’t live without and we got an overwhelming response for 12 items that you think other parents must have on their to-buy-for baby list. Chances are you’ll be buying these products for yourselves to give some respite during the tricky times of parenting.

If you’re expecting a baby in 2017 and wondering what products you may have missed from your baby list, check out our list of baby products you can’t live without.

12 Baby Products Parents Can’t Live Without

1. Disposable nappies. You can busy yourself silly with discussions on which nappies are most cost effective and eco-friendly for the environment, but hands down, our mums said disposable nappies were a must have. It’s an obvious product to have on hand, but you don’t realise how necessary your baby’s nappies are until you forget to refill the nappy bag and your darling has done a poonami. In public.

2. Baby Wipes. Another common sense product. Don’t expect to only use these on your baby’s bottom. They’re good for cleaning sticky hands, clothing stains and they are always good to have in your handbag when your children are older.

3. Dummy. Another controversial product, but mum’s swear by to ensure baby doesn’t hang of their boob all day.  Some babies will spit them out, but others will take to a dummy like their mummy’s nipple. If a dummy is going to help soother your baby (and your sanity), don’t be afraid to give it to them, just check with your GP or health care nurse on when to slowly remove it from baby.

4. Dummy Clip. If you baby does take to a dummy, you will be wanting one of these dummy clips to ensure the dummy doesn’t get lost or dropped. You will save your back and your sanity with this clip.

5. Love to Dream Swaddle. Many mums swore by the Love to Dream Swaddles. They allow babies to have their arms near their head, but prevent the reflex action that often wakes them from their sleep. I used these on my babies and wished they were around with my first baby as she always unswaddled herself when she slept.

6. Ergo 360 Baby Carrier. Most times, baby will just want to be held and a baby carrier makes it easy to allow mum or dad be hands free. They are great for travelling and going out and about with baby. The Ergo 360 was recommended by our mums, but sometimes baby can be fussy on what they will and won’t be carried in. Ask other mum friends what they use and borrow their carrier to see what works for you and your baby before you make the investment into your carrier.

7. Portacot aka Baby Jail. Portacots are great for travelling, but they can also double as a play pen at home when you need to contain baby when they start to crawl.

8. Baby Swing. For me, this was my must have item. I used it for all three of my babies and it helped them sleep for their morning nap if they wouldn’t go down and mummy needed a rest after being up all night.

9. Vibrating Baby Bouncer. A baby bouncer is another way to keep baby in one place. This particular bouncer can be elevated to a sofa height. Includes vibrations and music to soothe baby when they are unsettled.

10. Baby Movement Monitor. A baby monitor can help mums and dads have their ears and eyes on their baby when they sleep in their cot. For some parents, a monitor adds peace of mind.

11. Nursing Pillow. One of the side effects of breastfeeding is getting a sore back and arm when holding your baby to your breast. A nursing pillow helps support baby as they nurse and it ensures mum has the right posture when feeding to avoid back pain from occurring.

12. Nasal Sucker. When baby gets a cold – and it is inevitable as they will get one, a nasal aspirator can clear the nose and help baby to breathe.

What can you add to this list? What baby product couldn’t you live without?
