Practical Gifts For New Mums From Etsy

You don’t really know what baby products are going to be useful to you until you have your baby and you come across a problem which requires a said product. I remember being a little tight when I had my first and second babies. By the time I had my third, I wanted some easy solutions that would make coping with a baby and toddler easier to manage.

These 7 items are things that would make great gifts for a new mum. All sourced from Etsy to support mums in business.  They are stylish and practical and offer solutions to help breastfeeding mums find it easier to mother a newborn. I wished I invested in these items with my first baby so I got more use out of them, but at least I can share what worked to make the transition to motherhood easier for you. I had all of these with my third baby and I really believe these can make great gifts for a new mum or they are items mum can invest in for herself.

practical gifts for new mums

1. Bamboo Nursing Pads. I spent a small fortune on buying packets of disposable breast pads with my first two babies. I was given some handmade, bamboo breast pads when I had my third baby and I wished I had them from the beginning. Not only were they more comfortable, they were more environmentally friendly and saved money off our grocery bill as I wasn’t having to fork out $7 for a box of disposables every couple of weeks.

2. Nursing Pillow. I didn’t realise how much I tensed my arms while feeding my baby until I used a nursing pillow. Nursing pillows can sometimes be seen as a luxury item, not a necessary item as you can feed your baby without one. But gosh I loved when I used mine and I think any new mum would love receiving one.

3. Nappy Wallet. Baby bags can be quite bulky. With my third baby I opted for a large tote/oversized handbag and used a nappy wallet to store all my baby’s changing needs. Best part about having a nappy wallet is if Dad is designated to do the nappy change, he can just take out the wallet rather than the whole bag. I still use my nappy wallet for my toddler.

4. Nursing Cover. Should have bought this for my first baby. This was a game changer for nursing in public. No embarrassing moments fumbling with a muslin wrap to cover myself while feeding my baby in public. This nursing cover was easy to use and the opening at the top made it easy for me to see my baby as she would feed.

5. Sexy nursing top. Nursing tops don’t always look very stylish, so when you find one that can be dressed up or down, it’s definitely a top to be pounced on. I love this black cold shoulder top is dressy enough to be worn to a wedding with a skirt or worn casually with jeans.

6. Floaty Nursing Maxi Dress. Maxi dresses were my go-to-outfit for summer while breastfeeding because it would always be a hot and sweaty exercise. I often found it hard to find maxi dresses that would cover over a nursing bra. This one has been made to suit, while still being feminine and cool.

7. Teething necklace. Just yesterday, while we were attending a family funeral, my toddler pulled on my necklace and it fell apart onto the floor. Teething necklaces are a must have for mums with babies and toddlers that like to touch accessories. The silicone teething necklaces are a great choice for babies that like to chew. This particular necklace is great for sensory skills. It’s softness means, you won’t hurt baby when laying their head on your chest.
